At Flourish Family Medicine, we provide thoughtful, individualized care that honors neurodiversity and recognizes each person’s unique strengths, challenges, and lived experience. Our approach focuses on understanding the whole person — not just a diagnosis — and supporting health, regulation, and well-being in ways that are respectful and collaborative.
Dr. Hung and Dr. Johnson are Centers of Excellence (COE) providers and are able to evaluate and diagnose autism for children with certain insurance plans, including Medicaid / Apple Health. This allows many families to obtain a formal diagnosis needed to qualify for school-based supports, therapies, and other covered services through their insurance plan.
It is important for families to understand that while autism diagnoses made at Flourish Family Medicine may qualify a child for insurance-based services, diagnoses from naturopathic physicians do not qualify for Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) benefits in Washington State.
If a family anticipates that their child may need access to DDA services now or in the future, Flourish Family Medicine would not be the most appropriate referral for the initial diagnostic evaluation. In those cases, we recommend seeking evaluation through a qualifying medical or psychological provider who can meet DDA eligibility requirements.
Our goal is to ensure families receive the right evaluation, through the right pathway, based on both current needs and future considerations. We are always happy to discuss these options and help guide families toward the most appropriate next steps.
We will meet with you online or in person for the initial evaluation to learn more about you or your loved one's struggles and goals. We treat anything from ADD, ADHD, Autism, Depression, Anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
Families may come to us at different points in their child's journey. Some parents are seeking clarity after noticing patterns in their child's development, learning, or behavior, while others are beginning to explore neurodivergence for the first time.
Our role is to walk with you through an evaluation, provide guidance, and offer support tailored to each child's individual needs.
Ages 2-3: Evaluation is done via Telehealth ASD evaluations
Ages 3-5: Evaluation is done in person or Telehealth
Ages 6-10: In person evaluation is preferred. You can expect and interview-style visit with the parent and the child, as well as questionnaires.
We will gather information consisting of complete past medical history, developmental history, birth history, and any specialist notes such as OT, PT, Speech.
The clinician will talk with you about your concerns, ask questions about your child's development and medical history, and ask you to observe, interact, and play with your child.
The activities are designed so that we can observe how your child communicates and interacts with you and plays.
Some of these activities will probably feel different from the way you normally interact with your child at home-or even a little silly.
The clinician will ask you to use specific words or movements so that we can observe specific behaviors and interactions.
If we have trouble seeing or hearing you or your child clearly, we may ask you to tell us what your child said or where he/she was looking.
The clinician will give you feedback regarding the evaluation before the end of the meeting.
For Autism Evaluations
There will be a combination of intake from the office visit and questionnaires to be completed by the parents or teachers.
*We do not do in-person neuropsychological testing - instead, we refer out and have resources for that.
For ADD/ADHD Evaluations
We take an individualized approach to treatment recommendations that may include dietary modifications, nutraceuticals/supplements, and functional testing (stool, etc.) to address other imbalances and dysfunctions that could be contributing to symptoms.
Navigating the educational landscape for neurodivergent students can be challenging. Understanding the tools and resources available is crucial for supporting these students' unique learning needs. Two critical resources are the 504 Plan and the Individualized Education Program (IEP), which are designed to ensure that students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations and educational services.
Autism evaluations at Flourish Family Medicine are designed to be thorough, thoughtful, and individualized. Appointment length and structure reflect the time needed for careful history-taking, assessment, and discussion.
