Acute Care

Acute Care When You Need It — With a Provider Who Knows You

Illness and injury don’t always happen on a schedule.

Because we also want you to receive the right care in the right setting, this page outlines when it’s appropriate to schedule an acute visit with our office — and when urgent care or emergency services may be the better option.

Medicine offers same-day acute care visits for established patients to help address urgent health concerns when they arise.

Same-Day Acute Care at Flourish Family Medicine

We offer same-day acute care visits for established patients when unexpected illness or injury arises. These visits are designed to address urgent, non-life-threatening concerns and provide timely care with a provider who knows your health history.

Acute visits may be scheduled as:
→  In-office appointments, or
→  Telemedicine visits, when clinically appropriate

Your provider will help determine the best format based on your symptoms.

Eligibility for Same-Day Acute Visits

To ensure safe, high-quality care and continuity, same-day acute care visits are available to patients who are up to date on their preventive wellness visits.

Preventive visits allow our providers to:

  • Maintain an accurate understanding of your health history
  • Ensure medications, diagnoses, and preventive screenings are current
  • Provide more effective and efficient acute care when issues arise

Patients who are not current on preventive care may be asked to schedule a wellness visit before or in addition to an acute appointment.

Our office can be your first choice for care for non-life-threatening issues. We know you and your health history the best, including what medications you are taking and what chronic conditions should be considered in your treatment plan.

We offer same-day visits for the following complaints:

  • Colds and flu
  • Sinus infections
  • Ear aches
  • Bites and insect reactions
  • Scrapes and minor injuries
  • Skin reactions such as hives, and poison ivy
  • Acute diarrhea
  • Acute reactions to food (non-life-threatening)
  • Urinary tract infections

* Please note that you will have to call our office (425-286-8803) to schedule same-day visits as they cannot be booked online.
Emergency rooms are different from urgent care centers as they are equipped and staffed to handle the most complex or critical needs, including life-threatening situations ranging from heart attack and stroke to traumatic injuries following a car accident.

Visit the ER if you or your loved one is experiencing the following:

  • Shortness of breath/ difficulty breathing
  • Allergic reaction
  • Weakness/numbness on one side
  • Slurred speech
  • Fainting/change in mental state
  • Concussion/confusion
  • Serious burns
  • Head or eye injury
  • Broken bones and dislocated joints
  • Fever with a rash
  • Seizure
  • Severe cuts that may require stitches
  • Facial lacerations
  • Severe cold or flu symptoms
  • Vaginal bleeding with pregnancy

Urgent care or walk-in clinics are helpful when you become sick or injured, but it’s after hours, and you can’t wait for an appointment. Please note that Urgent Care is not emergency care. Please visit the ER for life-threatening issues. Also, please head to an urgent care center if your health complaints are non-life-threatening as it frees up ER resources and staff for severe cases.

Visit a nearby urgent care center if Flourish Family Medicine isn’t available, but your health complaints listed above cannot wait.

If you or your child is experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, please call 9-1-1 or visit the nearest ER immediately. Emergency rooms are open 24/7.

*Same-day acute visits are only available for current/established patients. We are also not a walk-in clinic. You will need to schedule an appointment by calling our office beforehand.
